Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 29, 2026

Renota is a local-first macOS notes and meeting assistant. We believe your original recordings, notes, and meeting content should stay under your control.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following information:

Account and contact information

Such as your email address, name, waitlist form responses, referral information, or support messages.

Payment and subscription information

If you purchase a paid plan, payment details are processed by our payment provider. We do not store your full card number.

Local app content

Renota may help you create recordings, notes, transcripts, structured meeting summaries, and AI chat history. By default, these files and content are stored locally on your Mac.

AI request content

When you choose to use AI features, the content needed to complete your request may be sent to our backend and/or AI service providers. This may include transcript text, selected note content, prompts, or related context. Original recordings are not stored by us for long-term cloud storage unless we clearly tell you otherwise and obtain the required permission.

Usage and technical information

Such as device type, app version, crash logs, IP address, browser type, pages visited, and basic analytics.

Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use cookies or similar tools for analytics, security, and remembering preferences.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide and improve Renota;
  • process waitlist, beta, referral, and subscription requests;
  • operate AI features you choose to use;
  • respond to support requests;
  • prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • understand product usage and improve the user experience;
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. Local-First Data Principle

Renota is designed so that your original recordings and local note content remain on your Mac by default.

However, "local-first" does not mean no data ever leaves your device. Some features require limited data transfer, such as account login, payment, seed user application forms, analytics, support, or AI processing that you initiate.

4. How We Share Information

We may share information with:

  • hosting and infrastructure providers;
  • authentication and database providers;
  • payment processors;
  • form and email service providers;
  • analytics providers;
  • AI service providers when you use AI features;
  • legal authorities if required by law;
  • a successor entity in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

We do not sell your personal notes, recordings, or meeting content.

5. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.

Local notes, recordings, and app content stored on your Mac remain under your control. You may delete them from your device. Account, billing, support, and operational records may be retained as required for legal, tax, security, or business reasons.

6. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information.

You may contact us at [email protected] to request access or deletion. We may need to verify your identity before processing the request.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also have the right to object to processing, request portability, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

7. California Privacy Notice

If you are a California resident, you may have rights under applicable California privacy laws. We do not sell personal information as the term is commonly understood. If our practices change, we will update this Privacy Policy.

We do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals because there is no uniform industry standard for such signals.

8. International Transfers

Renota may be operated from and use service providers located in different countries. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

Renota is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new effective date.
